Parents stored acid in sippy cup

Parents arrested after toddlers poisoned

Kyle and Amber Cooley in Milton were arrested on Dec. 10 on charges of felony child neglect and possession and production of drugs and drug equipment stemming from a 911 call Amber Cooley made on Dec. 9.

Emergency personnel including the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 8974 Fleetwood Street on Dec. 9 when Amber called 911 stating that her three year old son had swallowed drain cleaner.  When medical personnel got to the scene they advised that the child was found lying on the floor unresponsive.  He was severely burned on the face, neck, mouth and chest area.  The child was immediately taken by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital.

When deputies noticed items around the home that indicated that methamphetamine was being manufactured at the residence, Santa Rosa County Narcotics detectives were called and subsequently wrote a search warrant for the premises.  Several items were recovered that are used in the production of methamphetamine.  At that time, deputies received information that a second child had also ingested drain cleaner.

On Dec. 11 detectives with the Sheriff’s Office served another search warrant at the Fleetwood Street address.  According to a release issued, they were acting on information obtained from an interview with Kyle Cooley.  The detectives retrieved a “sippy cup” that was used to store the acid that the victim consumed.  Amber and Kyle Cooley appeared before a Santa Rosa County Judge and were each given a $1,011,000 bond.
