Raiders knock off Aggies

The Lady Raiders traveled to Tate on Dec. 1 and came away with a 6 – 1 victory. The Raiders had only one game on their schedule for the week and the Raiders wanted to make the most of it.

The Raiders took an early lead in the 6th minute when Kayla Folse crossed a pass to Lexi Stikeleather near the top of the box. Stikeleather gathered in the pass and beat the Aggie keeper on the right side to take a 1 – 0 lead.

The teams played evenly for the rest of the first half. The midfielders for both teams controlled play. Although both teams worked hard, the Raiders were able to work the ball a little deeper which allowed them to have a few scoring opportunities. However, the Raiders were unable to convert those opportunities into goals.

Whenever the Aggies crossed midfield, they were unable to penetrate the Raider defense of Mariah McKinney, Brenda Bishop, Kaylyn Ennis, Haylee Howard and Gianna Bly. Goalkeeper Julianna DeSalle was not tested in the first half.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Emily Madril found Folse with a pass as she was moving quickly down the left side. Folse shot from 15 yards out and the ball settled into the right corner of the net, giving the Raiders a 2 – 0 lead going into the halftime.
