Holley Assembly of God hosts homecoming

Merriam-Webster says it is the act of returning home or to a place that is like home. Many have called Holley Assembly of God their ‘home’ church over the years, and some of those have moved away. But Sunday was a homecoming, a celebration of sorts of the birth of Holley Assembly, and a time when those members could come ‘home’ again to fellowship and worship with the church.

Pastor Doug Barber looks forward to the homecoming each year. “Some years we have had as many as 200 people at the homecoming,” Barber said. “It is a great time of celebration.”

Barber, who has been at Holley Assembly of God for a little more than three years, says the congregation has received him and his wife with open arms. This is his first pastorate. “We were attending church in Milton when we were asked to come preach one Sunday here, and we had a wonderful time. When we left that day, I said to my wife, God is not finished with us here yet,” Barber said.

He was right.
