A disabled veteran’s quest for benefits

Medically retired Army Cpl. Camden Babcock is well aware of the bureaucratic red tape that can delay military benefits, but he’s surprised at the VA’s balking over blueprints for handicapped-access remodeling of a bathroom in his Holley by the Sea house.

“This is something that can make it easier for me to get through the day. And make things better for my mother, who takes care of me,” Camden said.

Although the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs agrees that the partially paralyzed 29-year-old qualifies for its Specially Adapted Housing grant program, actually receiving the financial aid is another matter.
