Cronin weighs options for future

Matt Cronin is still months away from his final baseball season with the Navarre Raiders but the standout pitcher’s future in the game is very much on his mind.

Cronin, already committed to Arkansas, had a chance to talk with scouts from the Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies earlier this month about the possibility of playing professional baseball.

“They contacted me and asked to come and sit and talk for a few hours,” Cronin said. “They were just trying to get an idea of how draftable I am, whether I am set on going pro or going to college.”

He said talking with the scouts was a good experience but a bit nerve-wracking.

“I was a little nervous because I didn’t want to say the wrong thing in front of pro scouts,” Cronin said. “It was very cool and casual. It was a good night.”

Cronin admits he has considered both the college and pro route, something many players do each year.

“I’ve definitely thought about it but I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet,” Cronin said. It depends on the situation I’m presented with.”
