Too fast at any speed

Residential streets in Gulf Breeze may soon have portable rubberized speed bumps to slow down the few speed limit offenders.

No matter how few drivers exceed the speed limits on residential streets in the city of Gulf Breeze, that’s too many for the volunteer Traffic Calming and Enforcement Committee.

So despite a recent series of radar tests that found most motorists actually registered average speeds below the posted limits on five streets, the city will soon spend $3,170 on two portable speed bumps.

Plans are to move the rubberized devices, one 4 inches high and the other slightly lower, from time to time to arteries through neighborhoods where homeowners have complained, even though there aren’t many speeders according to the radar tests.
