Raiders move up in football poll

Navarre’s football team is on the rise again in the state football poll.

The Raiders moved up to sixth in the 6A Associated Press poll this week, a spot higher than they were a week ago. The Raiders (5-0) are unbeaten at the midway point of the season after crushing Fort Walton Beach 55-14 Friday night at Steve Riggs Stadium.

Mainland remains the No. 1 team in the state, receiving 18 first-place votes.

Navarre has scored 40 or more in all but one game this year and has hit the 50-point mark twice. The Raiders have allowed just 64 points, with the defense holding opponents scoreless in the second half of each of the last three games.

The Raiders are back in action Friday night when they open District 2-6A play against Pace at Bennett C. Russell Stadium. The Patriots (2-3) are coming off a 45-28 loss to Crestview. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
