Raiders dismantle Vikings

Anthony Miller sat by his locker Friday night and savored Navarre’s latest win, a 55-14 drubbing of Fort Walton Beach.

Sure, the senior defensive lineman was happy, but those 14 points were a different story.

“If we get the shutout, we don’t have to run,” Miller said. “It’s fun when we get one. We gave up some points but we still got the win.”

Miller and his defensive teammates take pride in dismantling an opposing offense and they were aggressive against the Vikings at Steve Riggs Stadium, delivering vicious hits, batting down passes and recording five sacks.

The Vikings only scored once on the Raiders’ defense – Rashard Parker caught a wide-open pass from Corey Bonner on a first-quarter trick play – as the other points came on Bonner’s interception return for a touchdown.

“We just go out there and do our thing,” Miller said. “Our goal is always a shutout. We gave up seven, but we still made a lot of plays.”

The seventh-ranked Raiders (5-0) have been impressive on defense, having not allowed points in the second half in three consecutive games.

“We feel like we have good athletes all the way around,” Miller said. “Everyone does their job and you see the results.”
