The Run for the Reef has become a popular event at Navarre Beach and is expected to draw a large group of participants again this year.
The seventh annual run will take place Oct. 10, starting at 8 a.m. The event will feature a 10K run, a 5K run/walk and a one-mile fun run for children. Parents are welcome to accompany their children on the fun run, which will take place at the Sea Turtle Conservation Center.
“We’ve averaged about 300 runners, but have had around 350 before,” said Mike Sandler, the Navarre Beach Chamber Foundation president. “A lot of variables can affect a race, such as weather, but we’re expecting another good turnout.”
The Run for the Reef was originally started to help raise money for the artificial reefs that are now in place and thriving on the beach. The money continues to be used each year to make improvements to the reefs and enhancements to the Marine Park on the beach.
