Navarre volleyball team set for new season

Navarre’s volleyball team will play its first game Tuesday, traveling to Pace for a 6:30 p.m. match, and the excitement is building for the start of the new season.

With a new coach and a team with a positive outlook, the Raiders are ready to make the most of the opportunities in front of them.

“Things are going good,” first-year head coach Michelle Lee said. “We’re learning a new offense this year but the girls have picked up on it. They are really excited about the season.”

A total of 14 players are on the team, including seniors Christine Palmer, Jordyn York, Nyasha Frank, Cayla Frazetta, Shelby Freese and Mckenna Marsh. The juniors are Sydney Andre, Hallie Bouressa, Carly Haytack, Eliana Rangel, Camryn Revette, Aubrey Ross, Haley Thompson and Savannah West.

All of them have playing experience at either the junior varsity or varsity level. Several played club volleyball for Lee, who is the director of the Navarre Beach Volleyball Club.

“The girls have worked very hard,” Lee said. “They are really gelling well as a team.”

Learning an offense that has a faster pace to it has the main point of emphasis in practice. Lee expects it to be one of the team’s biggest strengths because the pieces are in place for it to be effective.
