Major grocery-based shopping center eyed for South Santa Rosa

A major international company is eyeing development of  a large grocery-based shopping center along the U.S. 98 corridor west of Navarre.

The project was revealed during Monday’s county commission meeting when the board was asked to vacate property located in Holley By the Sea (HBTS).

Belie Williams, representing HBTS Homeowners’ Improvement Association, asked the county to vacate an undeveloped right of way on Leisure Street to allow a potential buyer to use the site connecting two properties for wetlands mitigation associated with a planned shopping center.

Williams’ attorney, Jeff Sour of Pensacola, said MBA Acquistions is seeking the property for mitigation but said he did not know where the potential development is located.

Assistant Public Works Director Stephen Furman in a May 27 memo recommended commissioners delay approving Williams’ request because the property is located in an area being studied for future transportation and stormwater-related needs.

MAB Acquisitions, an Australian-based company which provides site acquisition for grocery-based shopping centers in the southeastern United States, has recently been involved with a Publix-based development set to open this fall roughly 60 miles northeast of Birmingham.
