Confidence instrumental in turnaround for Blue Wahoos

If there was one moment that defined the progress the Pensacola Blue Wahoos made in May, it’s the wild game they played on Memorial Day against the Jackson Generals.

They trailed 6-0 after four innings and were down 7-4 heading into the eighth.

When the game ended, the Blue Wahoos were savoring the thrill of an 8-7 comeback win rather than the disappointment of a tough loss.

After winning only six times in April, Pensacola won 15 games last month.

“We have taken big steps since the beginning of the year,” first baseman Ray Chang said. “We were struggling early hitting the ball. It’s not like we weren’t hitting the ball hard. We just couldn’t find any grass out there. Now, we’re finding the holes and stringing hits together.”

That success is connected to the confidence the players bring to the ballpark.
