District, union may head to mediation

Around 135 teachers attended the latest negotiation session between representatives from Santa Rosa County District Schools and Santa Rosa Professional Educators (SRPE), the county’s teachers’ union.

But district officials didn’t budge on their 2.18 percent salary increase offer and balked at the union’s push for a 3.72 percent hike, so the parties remain at an impasse.

Rhonda Chavers, SRPE president, said she was disappointed the district came back with an offer of performance-based pay, considering both parties had tentatively agreed to hold off until the 2015-16 school year.
