Bear hunting could soon become a reality

Despite heavy public opposition, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioners approved a limited bear hunting season last week as part of their draft bear management plan.

Commission Chairman Dick Corbett said opponents of the plan are offering “an emotional response,” and said the FWC has “a responsibility to the public.”

According to FWC Division of Hunting and Game Management Director Diane Eggeman, the plan was drafted in response to the increased bear population over the last 15 to 20 years.
