Frustration growing over ‘sign pollution’

Larry Sims, a resident of Navarre Beach, recently took an inventory of signage on both Navarre and Pensacola beaches.

Sims, a member of the Navarre Beach Beautification Committee (BBC), presented his findings to the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council’s south end committee at its April 8 meeting.

According to Sims, Navarre Beach’s scenic 4-mile stretch features four times as many signs as the 6-mile corridor comprising Pensacola Beach.

Sims told attendees Navarre Beach has 424 signs, including what he reports as 302 signs erected by the county, 34 signs for businesses and 88 sales or rental signs. He saw 106 signs on Pensacola Beach.
