Permanent memorial planned for military crash victims

Santa Rosa County Commissioner Rob Williamson March 23 told fellow board members Leadership Santa Rosa Class 29 plans to coordinate a permanent memorial honoring 11 servicemen who died in a March 10 military helicopter crash in Navarre.

Tony Alexander, president and CEO of the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, is a class member and said the group aims to raise between $75,000 and $100,000 toward erecting a memorial on the east end of Navarre Park.

Alexander said the effort will be “all encompassing,” explaining the class will reach out for help to members of the community and for corporate sponsorships.

“We expect a big fundraising effort,” he said.
