Officials inch toward approving teachers’ contracts

Negotiators from Santa Rosa County Schools and the county’s teachers’ union are moving closer to finalizing new contracts.

The groups have met more than a dozen times since the fall, but progress stalled when school board representatives wanted to include four furlough days. After union officials refused to back down, the district gave in and scratched the possibility of furlough.

Now union representatives are pushing for step raises for teachers, which are not included in the proposed contract language.
