Commission to vote on island food vendor

Santa Rosa County Commissioners Thursday will decide whether or not to allow vendors on county-owned commercial property on Gulf Boulevard, and some islanders are concerned the move might set a precedent.

“The residents on the island do not want an area of mobile food stands, such as they have in downtown Pensacola,” Tim Keohane, president of the Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association, told Santa Rosa County Commissioners. “That would not be popular with residents on the island.”

Keohane said leaseholders are unanimously against vendor trucks “going up and down” public beach accesses. He cited sanitation and safety concerns.
