Khorri Newton had a determined look in her eyes as she competed in the high jump Saturday.
Newton, a junior at Navarre High School, was one of the last six athletes standing in the event and was eager to turn in a strong performance at the Panhandle Championship meet at Washington High School in Pensacola.
She finished the day in fifth with a jump of 5-feet-2-inches, 2 inches off her personal-best.
Still, Newton was pleased with her overall effort as she helped the Raiders finish in a three-way tie for ninth with 21 points.
“I felt like I could have done better, but I was satisfied with my performance,” Newton said. “I know I can do better and will continue to push hard to get higher and improve my PR.”
