Deputy in stable condition following wreck

A Santa Rosa County deputy is in stable condition following a March 17 car accident in Suwannee County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Deputy Joshua J. Tool, 26, of Milton sustained serious injuries after the car he was traveling in collided head-on with a Lexus at 10:55 a.m.

FHP said Tool and Deputy Kurt A. Schultz, 37, were transporting a prisoner in a marked Santa Rosa deputy vehicle. Schultz was driving westbound on I-10 when Dinara Kalimullina, 34, of Plano, Texas, went off the eastbound roadway and into the center median.

FHP said Kalimullina traveled into the westbound lanes. Schultz unsuccessfully tried to avoid a collision. After impact, Kalimullina traveled onto the north shoulder and came to final rest in the tree line. The deputy’s vehicle rotated clockwise, coming to final rest in the emergency lane facing east.

Tool and the prisoner were transported to UF Health in Gainesville with serious injuries. Capt. Bob Johnson said both men are in stable condition.

Schultz reported no injuries.

Kalimullina reported minor injuries. Her 6-year-old passenger had no injuries.

Kalimullina told police she was distracted looking at her GPS. She was charged with careless driving.
