Commission moves to extend suspension of impact fees

County commissioners are expected Thursday to approve scheduling public hearings to extend a county ordinance suspending transportation impact fees on new residential or commercial construction.

The move will buy time for commissioners to decide whether to reinstate the impact fees or potentially increase the local gas tax to offset the loss of monies from the Florida Department of Transportation’s Small County Outreach Program (SCOP). The program funded roughly $1.4 million in road surfacing projects each year, but due to Santa Rosa County’s increased population, it no longer qualifies for funding.
