Employee charged after pills go missing

A Navarre woman employed at Walgreens, 8220 Navarre Parkway, is facing a felony charge after police said she stole narcotics from the store’s pharmacy.

Leslie C. Morehouse, 54, of the 2200 block of Panhandle Trail, was arrested Sunday on a charge of grand theft of a controlled substance after she was accused of taking just less than 3,000 hydrocodone pills.

On Sunday, deputies from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft complaint at Walgreens, where the store’s asset protection officer told them an employee was stealing controlled narcotics from the pharmacy area.

The protection officer said he learned that during the past five months there was a noticeable shortage in the pharmacy’s hydrocodone inventory. He worked with the store manager and the pharmacy manager to inventory the hydrocodone pills to establish a time frame for the possible theft of medications. From Sept. 2 to Feb. 21,  the pharmacy identified an unexplained shortage of 2,993 hydrocodone pills valued at $1 each. The protection officer viewed surveillance video taken during that time frame and told police he observed Morehouse entering the pharmacy prior to the store opening and leaving with the pills.

Morehouse was transported to Santa Rosa County Jail where she is being held on $100,000
