Wetherell leaves legacy of education, environmental stewardship

If not for Jack Wetherell’s vision, the Panhandle Butterfly House may never have come to fruition.

That’s what Jeanne Blage said while remembering her friend who recently passed away at his home in Nebraska. He was 94.

When Blage moved to Navarre in 1995, Wetherell was the president of the Santa Rosa County Master Gardener Association.

“He had camellias galore in his yard,” she said.

She and her husband, Blair, became friends with Wetherell and his wife, Fonda.
