Dry grass contributes to fire

Firefighters responded to a call at 2061 Burjonik Lane just after 1:30 Saturday afternoon.

The resident said he was burning cardboard in his fire pit when the wind kicked up and the flames spread.

“It caught on the dry grass,” he said. “It was windy and too dry.”

The resident said he grabbed the hose to wet down the fence and called 911.

He said firefighters arrived in about five minutes. Holley Navarre, Navarre Beach, Florosa and Mary Esther departments responded to the call.

Julie Bovee, who lives across the street from where the fire occurred, said when firefighters arrived, “they busted the fence down” in the front yard to access the fire which was spreading into the woods behind the house.

“We saw the flames,” she said.

The fire was contained and firefighters continued to spray the area behind the house. No injuries were reported.
