Santa Rosa Professional Educators (SRPE), the county’s teachers’ union, is seeking federal mediation to resolve negotiations with Santa Rosa County School District.
The district wants to add four furlough days into the teachers’ contract, which expired in August 2014.
“We absolutely will not agree to it,” Rhonda Chavers, SRPE president, said, following a Jan. 14 negotiation session.
Steve Ratliff, chief negotiator for the school district, confirms SRPE has asked the district to consider non-binding federal mediation through the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services Board — something he says has never happened.
