Seashore Visitor Center temp closure starts Jan. 10

The Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center in Gulf Breeze will be closed temporarily starting Jan. 10 as part of a mold remediation project which began Jan. 2 at the Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS) administration building.

GUIS Superintendent Dan Brown says he anticipates work on the 10,000 square-foot facility will be complete by mid-February.  Brown in December told Navarre Press he suspected the mold growth had occurred as a result of water damage sustained during the April 2014 declared flooding event.

According to Brown, 15 employees have been relocated to other GUIS facilities as a result of the remediation project, which has cost the National Park Service $107,108 so far.
