Quinn earns lifetime achievement award

The Zoological Association of America Nov. 13 presented Pat Quinn, founder of Gulf Breeze Zoo, with a Lifetime Achievement Award during its annual conference held at Pensacola Beach. The award recognizes Quinn’s decades of dedication and countless contributions to the zoological industry.

Mickey Ollson, director of Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium and Safari Park in Litchfield Park, Ariz., made the presentation to Quinn, whom he has known since the early 1970s.

“Pat was a founding member of ZAA,” Ollson said, noting the first ZAA meeting was held at Gulf Breeze Zoo about 10 years ago.

Ollson explained he and Quinn met when Quinn was director of Lion Country Safari in Irvine, Calif. Ollson and Quinn later opened similar privately funded public zoos in 1984.
