Park superintendent: Beach road fee unlikely after public comments

Gulf Islands National Seashore Superintendent Dan Brown says proposed plans to charge a fee to use the sole beach road connecting Navarre and Pensacola Beaches are unlikely in the wake of public comments on the issue.

“If the public comments do not support charging an entrance fee on J. Earle Bowden Way, the park will not consider it further and will remove it from the recommendation forwarded to the Regional Office.  Based on the public feedback we have received to date, it appears that is what will happen,” Brown said Dec. 5.  “We appreciate and value the input we receive from the public – the owners of the national parks – and we do listen,” Brown added.
The public comment period will be held through Jan. 2. To speak out on the matter, email or visit the GUIS Facebook page. Comments will also be accepted via regular mail at: Gulf Islands National Seashore, Attn: Fee Program,1801 Gulf Breeze Pkwy, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563. For more information, call 850-934-2600.
