No recycling stations in south Santa Rosa

Recently the Florida Department of Environmental Protection celebrated Florida Recycles Day 2014, recognizing recycling as a top priority in daily life. However, local recycling efforts continue to face challenges following the closure of most county recycling stations.

After the bankruptcy of the county’s former recycling services provider, West Florida Recycling, multiple recycling stations throughout Santa Rosa County were shut down in April. Now residents or businesses without access to curbside recycling programs must drive to Milton or Jay to participate in the county’s recycling program.

Andrew Hill, Santa Rosa County’s environmental supervisor, said although single-stream recycling has resumed at the two sites under a partnership with the Escambia County Utilities Authority, there were other issues involved with south Santa Rosa recycling locations.
