Attendance doubles at annual Spooktacular

One by one, miniature versions of pirates, Capt. America and Super Girl made their way in to the fifth annual Science Spooktacular by the Sea Friday evening at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station.

With booths like “Atomic Slime” and “Oozing Pumpkins,” kids enjoyed multiple science lessons with a Halloween theme.

Charlene Mauro, director of the science station, was pleased with the turnout, which doubled from last year. Nearly 1,000 people attended the event , which took place Friday and Saturday.

Mauro, who was dressed as a mad scientist, said the Spooktacular, which serves as the station’s largest fundraiser, is important to the community because it gets children interested in science.

“I don’t believe you can do that too soon,” she said. “It’s important to get them outside and appreciate what we have.”
