Great start for Lady Raiders’ soccer

After graduating 12 seniors last year, most teams would be going through a rebuilding year. However, if the preseason is any indication, the Raiders look to be contenders once again.

The Lady Raiders won their first pre-season game, beating Arnold 5-1 on Oct. 23 at the Twin Oaks Complex in Niceville. Two days later the Raiders won their second pre-season contest, beating Fort Walton Beach 3-1 on Oct. 25.

Making the two wins even more impressive was the fact that Coach Rob Simon was forced to call up five players up from the JV squad because of injuries.

Injured players midfielder captain Riley Slaybaugh, defender Mariah McKinny and goal keeper captain Julianna DeSalle sat out the first game.

“We limited playing time for several girls because they are a little banged up,” Simon said. “We should start to get some of these players back at full speed next week.”
