Bus drivers threaten action

Discontent among some public school bus drivers is reaching a fever pitch. More than a dozen drivers showed up at the Sept. 11 Santa Rosa School Board meeting, complaining that Durham School Services, the district’s transportation provider, disrespects employees and fails to maintain its fleet of 214 buses.

“We feel that we are just plain unimportant, and we don’t want to feel that way,” said bus driver Thomas Kasperek, adding, “I’m sorry, but my coworkers and I just cannot promise labor peace in the near future.” An official with another union said that was a veiled threat that drivers would go on strike.
