Extra bed tax kicks in as tourism revenues soar

It’s been a banner year for tourism, both locally and statewide. An additional one-cent county bed tax,
levied for Navarre Beach renourishment, also started in June. That added kick has boosted local tourism
revenues, which have gradually recovered following the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

Santa Rosa County Economic Development Director Shannon Ogletree says June’s bed tax revenues,
which topped $298,000, may be the highest ever for that period. The additional penny contributed roughly $60,000, rocketing revenues 44 percent over last June’s $207,000 total.
