Local shark bite is No. 14 this year

police-siren-lightsA Florida researcher said that the July 14 shark bite in Okaloosa County was the 14 such attack this year, but only the first one along the state’s Gulf Coast.

George Burgess, director of the Florida Program for Shark Research, confirmed Terrell Moore’s injury was due to a shark bite and will be classified as an unprovoked attack.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the 39-year-old man from Pleasant View, Tennessee, was bit on the ankle while swimming about 75 feet offshore. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
