TRIAL BEGINS FOR FORMER OFFICER IN MIAMI ATV CRASH

Opening statements are set in the trial of a former Miami Beach police officer charged with four felonies stemming from a 2011 beach crash in which the all-terrain vehicle he was driving struck and seriously injured two people.

DRIVER SHOT BY POLICE OFFICER ON I-75

A Miami-Dade police officer shot and wounded a man during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 near Miami Gardens Drive. Police say the incident happened late Sunday when the officer, who was driving home from work, pulled over two speeding cars. One of the drivers kept driving toward him during the traffic stop and the officer fired his weapon. The wounded man is in the hospital.

SIBLINGS ARE BACK-TO-BACK VALEDICTORIANS

Siblings from New Smyrna Beach are back-to-back valedictorians at their high school. Scott Mosher graduated atop his class on Sunday, following in his sister Kara’s footsteps. She was valedictorian of the class of 2013.

PINELLAS COUNTY MOVES MOST GRADUATIONS INSIDE

Most of Pinellas County’s high schools have opted to move graduation ceremonies inside to escape rain, heat and humidity. Graduations start Monday for the county’s 16 high schools.

JUROR FACES CONTEMPT CHARGE FOR FACEBOOK POSTING

A Palm Beach County juror faces up to six months in jail after posting comments on Facebook about a trial that he was helping decide despite a judge’s warnings not to do so. An attorney says two more jurors may face trail for making similar comments while serving on a panel hearing another trial.
