Woodlawn Beach Middle School only started its Microsoft I.T. Career Academy this year but it has already been honored as Santa Rosa County’s Middle School Career Academy of the Year. The award was presented Tuesday at the 2014 Career Academy Awards Luncheon.
Santa Rosa County Schools Director of Workforce Education Charlin Knight said the program was initially planned to prepare students for Microsoft Office certification exams, but teacher Jennifer Hensley expanded it to include CompTIA A+ exams as well.
“We asked her to do one thing and she took it to the next level,” Knight said. “She is a great teacher.” In addition to Hensley’s efforts, the school’s administration and technology department were recognized as being critical to the success of the program.
