Friends and family will say their final goodbyes Saturday to William “Cody” Goodman, a 17-year-old from Gulf Breeze who was shot Christmas Eve by a Pensacola Police Department officer after a high speed chase. Goodman was also scheduled to make a court appearance this month regarding a vehicular homicide that he was charged with earlier in 2013.
“Cody is remembered for the laughter and joy he brought to all who knew him,” his obituary says. “Although his demise was sudden, the family finds solace in knowing he is at rest.” Goodman was a five months shy from his graduation at Gulf Breeze High School and had lived in the area for close to ten years with his parents William and Katherine and sister Ashley.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Gulf Breeze at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4. Visitors are welcome at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Cody’s name to a scholarship program at a college or university of choice.
